Bring on the Night

Original: Private Collection

1st Place Painting, ACU Student Competition Abilene, TX

This painting was inspired by a college roommate who was more than a bit daring. I painted her image from a photo in which she was standing on a high tower. In the darkness the thrill of the climb was on her face. In the background, I have written a passage from As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. Superimposed over the text is a deep sea rover. And yes, that is a Barbie doll that I painted and ripped the limbs off. (Okay, so I've never really liked Barbie.) The name of the work, Bring On the Night, I also ripped off from a song by Sting. I felt like that phrase evoked her mystery in the short time I knew her.
