It’s easy to plop an apple down in front of me to practice drawing or painting from life. Painting still lifes can be an obsession for artists working on their alla prima skills. Fruit is always available in the fridge and never complains or moves.

 

An apple fascinates me since it symbolizes temptation, choice, and the result of that choice. The fruit of our choices can be good or bad. Fruit always bears fruit of its kind. One action isn’t just one action, but the first of many. Just as the fruit holds seeds for the next fruit of its own kind.
